Is It Wise To Clean And Reuse Your Home's HVAC Air Filters?

HVAC (Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning) systems rely on their respective air filters to keep out dust particles, pollen grains, and other allergens from entering our homes and workplaces. Over time, however, these same filters become clogged with dirt and debris, reducing their effectiveness and efficiency.
Some people might consider cleaning and reusing these same filters in order to save money, but is this really a wise decision? Let's take a closer look at the pros and cons associated with this practice.

Why You Should Replace Your Filter Regularly?

It is generally recommended by experts that we replace our respective home's HVAC system's air filters every 90 days or so. This ensures maximum efficiency when trapping airborne particles such as dust, pollen, pet dander, etc. If left unchanged, these same filters will eventually become clogged with dirt and debris, reducing their effectiveness. Additionally, if left unchanged, these same filters will cause our respective heating ventilation systems to work harder than necessary when pushing out filtered airflow.

When we replace our respective home's filters regularly, we also help maintain high indoor quality by preventing any potential allergen build-up inside our homes. This could potentially prevent any health-related issues arising from allergies or asthma.

Can We Clean And Reuse Our Filters?

In certain cases, we might be able to clean and reuse our existing filters; however, most disposable types should not be reused since they are designed specifically for one-time use only. For example, if we have a pleated synthetic material type, then we might rinse off using a garden hose or vacuum using a shop vac. However, whichever method used, make sure it is completely dry before putting it back into place. Also, bear in mind that whatever cleaning method is used, it must be the appropriate type of filter being cleaned, otherwise, there is a risk of damaging them beyond repair!

The Benefits Of Using Disposable Filters?

Disposable types are usually more effective than reusable ones since they are specifically designed for trapping airborne particles, plus they tend to last longer since they don't get easily clogged up like reusable ones do! Additionally, replacing them every 90 days or so isn't much of a hassle either since all we need to do is take out the old one and put in the new one! So overall, disposable types offer both convenience and cost-savings benefits!
